After obtaining
a BFA degree from Michigan State University, Art Sims began his
career as an art director of CBS Records in New York. Since that
time, Sims has been involved with the creative side of the entertainment
industry through his advertising agency, 11:24 Design Advertising,
and has produced several of the most memorable images in history
for film marketing campaigns. Sims has received and served on the
Key Art Awards judging panel two years running, and several of his
motion picture poster ad campaigns have been selected for the Permanent
Collection on display at the Smithsonian Museum in New York.
Sims has worked with some of Hollywood's top filmmakers, including
Steven Spielberg, Tim Robbins, and Spike Lee, as he created the
indelible images seen for the movie posters and print ad campaigns
of several films, including The Color Purple, Do The Right Thing,
Malcom X, and a host of others. Having created a niche in the advertising
world through a series of critically acclaimed urban campaigns,
Sims believes that design is an area that allows for several unique
viewpoints. "I am particularly interested in exposing children from
all walks of life to the opportunities in the entertainment industry,
but especially the creative realm. Through 11:24 design, as well
as the program I developed for school sponsorship programs, The
AIR Foundation (Artist In Residence), I believe that we can expose
a whole new generation to this field."
Sims recently started 11:24 Design Films with a number of features
films in pre-production. Going in front of the cameras in spring
2001 will be his screenplay, The Goal, a story about American Soccer.
Art Sims just directed his first short documentary film, Rio De
Janeiro: A Soccer Samba, based on his script. He is submitting the
project for film festival consideration, while continuing his work
at 11:24 Design Advertising.
